This interview is part of a series of developer discussions that share details on the upcoming collectible RPG Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall, to be released on iOS and Android.
If you’ve missed our previous developer discussions, read them here.

We talked to the Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall Creative Team about the character Lord Commander Brynden Rivers, also known as Bloodraven and eventually the Three-Eyed Raven.

What makes Bloodraven special in Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall?

Bloodraven is an incredibly complex character and one of my favorite in the series. He’s a prophetic warrior who plays many roles over many years. He ultimately ends up in a pivotal position by harnessing the power of greensight as the Three-Eyed Raven – as we’ve seen in the show.
In our game’s timeline, the Lord Commander has disappeared during his latest ranging expedition beyond the Wall. Players follow his trail to discover what happened and, throughout the story, unlock the ability to use Bloodraven in other game modes.
Without revealing too much about the story, Bloodraven serves as a conduit to the mysteries beyond the Wall and some of the more interesting collectible combat abilities. He is a cornerstone for much of the game’s overall framework.

What abilities can Bloodraven use in combat?

Bloodraven is a legendary archer and expert ranger. He uses a weirwood bow, which is made from trees of the same name. Weirwood bows and arrows are rumored to have magical properties. Bloodraven fires with such accuracy that people describe his shots as “aimed with sorcery.”

What sort of squad strategy can players build around Bloodraven?

If players can buff Bloodraven with support units and then lure the enemy within range of his trap abilities, multiple enemies can be tricked into taking heavy damage. One or more enemy can then be defeated during the next turn. Bloodraven also increases critical hit damage for the squad, so there is another opportunity to bring high damage units along.

Can we expect other hero versions of Bloodraven in the future?

Bloodraven influenced the course of history during his time in Westeros. While we can’t confirm anything at the moment, we are thinking about the many ways he impacted the world and how that might play out in our combat system.
